Hip Replacement Surgery
What is Hip replacement surgery?
Regain Flexibility
Hip replacement surgery, also known as hip arthroplasty, is a surgical procedure in which the hip joint is replaced with an artificial implant.
The surgery is typically performed to relieve pain and improve mobility in the hip joint caused by arthritis, osteoarthritis, or a hip fracture. During the procedure, the damaged or diseased hip joint is removed and replaced with an artificial implant, which can be made of metal, plastic, or ceramic.
The implant is designed to mimic the movement of a natural hip joint and allow the patient to return to normal activities after recovery. The surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia and takes several hours to complete. Recovery time can vary, but most patients are able to return to normal activities within a few months.

Step-by-Step Explanation of Hip Replacement Surgery
The patient is given general anesthesia to put them to sleep during the procedure.
An incision is made on the side or back of the hip to access the hip joint.
The damaged or diseased hip joint is carefully removed, preserving as much healthy tissue as possible.
The artificial implant is inserted into the hip joint. The implant is made up of two parts: a ball that replaces the head of the thighbone (femur) and a socket that replaces the hip bone (acetabulum).
The incision is closed with sutures or staples, and a bandage is applied.
After the surgery, the patient will stay in the hospital for several days to recover. Physical therapy will be started to help the patient regain their strength and mobility.
What age should I be to get a hip replacement surgery?
There are no specific restrictions when it comes to age or weight. Typically, our patients fall in the 40 – 90 plus age bracket. But we’ve also treated teenagers with juvenile arthritis.
Hip Replacement Surgery has been the most successful procedure for the last six decades. We evaluate the individual needs of patients before operating on them. Moreover, Dr.S. Arumugam has performed more than 3000 surgeries, so you’ll be in the safest hands.
Most patients can start walking without any assistance on the day of the surgery itself. They can resume their routine activities within a span of 2 or 3 months.
